Hi! I’m Yip, 22 year old visual and conceptual artist.
My work includes expressionistic documentation of my emotional state, depictions of every day life, which I isolate to highlight their absurdity and nuances, and projects constructed around societal and political concepts such as commodification or public space.
Through a painting like “THOUGHTS” I capture an emotional state of conflict regarding my romantic relationships, and self perception. Serving as an outlet of those emotions as well as a documentation of them.
Meanwhile, my longest running project “VOMIS WORLDWIDE” focuses on commodifying for the sake of commodification (meta commodification). Satirising capitalism’s consequences on modern art. The work parodies the inherent commodification brands have to engage with by purposefully commodifying my own identity. Through presenting myself as significant, I aim to be perceived as such, copying visual language and mediums commonly used in advertising to do so.
Most of this work is unauthorised public art, through which I reclaim public space and comment on the societal and governmental standards within it.
I work with a dynamic variety of mediums, including different forms of painting, print, photography, installation, as well as video.
