TELEVOMIS is a series of 4 short films, that can be viewed either separately or compiled, documenting the unauthorised public art (UPA) of VOMIS AVP. For the past few years VOMIS AVP has been engaging with various methods of UPA in Rotterdam and beyond, TELEVOMIS is meant to give insight into that process.
Throughout the different short films VOMIS showcases unique methods ranging from placing ceramic tiles in public using construction glue, to creating foam board signs and tie wrapping them to traffic poles. All of these methods are unique to their work, and haven’t yet been documented for the public to see.
These methods are presented in a playful fast paced manner. This rapid tempo mirrors the immediacy and impermanence that characterise UPA. The other editorial choices such as the music selection, serve to shine light on part of VOMIS’s personality, offering an insight into their creative context.
This also plays into the larger context of online videos documenting UPA; instead of using heavily edited footage paired with curated soundtracks, most videos are shot and edited by the artists themselves and paired with personal playlists.
TELEVOMIS aims to give viewers insight into unauthorised public art(ists), and present unconventional new UPA methods. Encouraging viewers new to the medium to gain an appreciation for UPA. (Which may come paired with a reconsideration of their view on public space). While for UPA veterans, the new methods and styles serve as a refreshing addition to UPA cultures.
TELEVOMIS is intermittently displayed at various museums and film festivals, currently it is set to be shown at the WDKA Graduation Show from the 3rd to the 6th of July, 2024.
